- Double-weighted statement
- This book contains the first study of Thomson’s work (150pp), and a critical edition of the surviving correspondence, 78 letters in Latin and Greek (210pp). Most of these letters are published here for the first time from manuscripts in Leiden, London, Munich, Paris and Zurich. Anthony Grafton (Princeton) reviewed it for the publisher: ‘Sharp, lucid and drily witty ... one of the best introductions a student or a scholar could now read to the late humanist culture of erudition’. Dirk van Miert called it ‘an exemplary study’ and ‘a marvellous critical edition of the letters’ (Low Countries Historical Review).
