- Through the lens of the life of Rous, this single-authored historical-sociological, biographical monograph re-assesses the relationship of football to English society between 1900 and 1975. Rous’s contributions to football development in mainland Europe, Africa and Australia are critically interrogated, based on extensive data-collection and original research in archives – including the National Archives (Kew), The FA, the National Football Museum, FIFA, UEFA, Sport and Recreation Alliance, and Rous’s private papers. The book justifies double weighting as it is a longer form of output demonstrating, in a complex interdisciplinary synthesis, a sustained research effort over a period of three decades.
