- This book is the result of research undertaken over 15 years in the areas of contemporary art, new social movements, critical and cultural theory, philosophy of aesthetics and political economy. This work has been funded by the Mondriaan Foundation, the ESRC, the Arts Division of the Federal Chancellery of Austria and the Ayuntamento de Vitoria-Gasteiz. It elaborates an argument based on individual and collective practice as well as scholarly research to find a 'speculative' method for understanding the context for the limitations and possibilities of contemporary artistic labour and creative economies from the standpoint of the social ontology of art.
