- This major open access paper (c.34,000 words; 70 figures; 32 supporting files & figures) arose from 5 years (2014-2019) of fieldwork and multi-disciplinary research in Iraqi Kurdistan supported by multiple funders (Wenner-Gren, Leverhulme Trust/ECF, British Institute for the Study of Iraq, Wainwright Fund, AHRC-funded LAHP). It provides a new, comprehensive investigation of the NW Zagros Epipalaeolithic (Zarzian) horizon following Braidwood’s pioneer research in the 1950s, including new excavation, micromorphology, radiometric, material culture, zooarchaeological and archaeobotanical data. It represents research of extended scale and scope, based on detailed documentation and cross-regional comparisons.
