- This monograph is the culmination of almost a decade’s research. Its innovative cross-genre approach to the study of girlhood required sustained investigation into multiple multifaceted fields, including Victorian print culture, the histories of childhood and education, and children’s literature. To locate key out-of-print and non-digitised sources, and to uncover new biographical information about authors and readers, the analysis involved extensive archival research in locations including the National Libraries of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, the British Library, and Victoria College Belfast. At over 90,000 words, the output represents a significant research effort.
