- This 232-page monograph is the first scholarly study of the theatre company Cheek by Jowl. The book is rooted in extensive archival work, drawing on rehearsal notes, company documentation, reviews and other ephemera, as well as observation of rehearsals and new interviews with key members of the company. Through twelve case studies, the book traces the underpinning principles of Cheek by Jowl’s work, setting out their original interventions into Shakespeare performance in several languages, and argues the case for the company being one of the most significant and influential interpreters of early modern drama today.
