- This is the first piece of research to provide in-depth insights into people’s lived experiences of Chinese-Western ethnic intermarriage. Underpinning this monograph is a complex and extensive mixed methods research design, combining in-depth ethnography, qualitative interviews, visual methods, and the analysis of large-scale cross-national survey data. Particularly innovative is the design of the qualitative interviews, conducted in a pair-wise fashion, which covers and compares the separate perspectives of each spouse as well as the joint narratives of a couple dyad. Given the nature of the subject matter, the fieldwork also involved extensive bilingual data collection in both Chinese and English.
