- This very substantial monograph (656 pages) is the fruit of a two-year Pilot Programme Grant from the Wellcome Trust (09415858/z/10/z) and a three-year Major Research Fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust (MRF-2013-068). It draws on a sustained research programme based on the analysis of thousands of epidemic disease outbreaks from classical antiquity until the late twentieth century, a project of unparalleled scope developing fresh perspectives on a fundamental issue.
