- Standard clinical imaging measures are not sufficient to evaluate heart disease. This paper was the first to demonstrate multidimensional quantification of cardiac shape changes associated with myocardial infarction. The data from this paper was used for a benchmarking challenge (community resource for open evaluation of algorithms for shape analysis) at the MICCAI conference in 2015, leading to a paper reporting excellent evaluation of patients (http://www.doi.org/10.1109/JBHI.2017.2652449). This work enables patient examinations to be quantified in terms of z-scores against reference populations and was the basis of further funding (NIH 1R01HL121754 USD$1.8m).
