- Spunta was jointly responsible, with Jacopo Benci, for conceiving and editing this interdisciplinary volume. It is the first book-length collection of scholarly essays on leading Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992), one of the most significant Italian visual artists of the twentieth century, to appear in English. The work for this substantial volume (pp. lv + 303; c. 115,000 words) included writing a 12,500 word chapter (# 10), and co-writing (80%) a substantial 15,500 word introduction (Spunta wrote the original draft that Benci revised). The volume stemmed from a British Academy/Leverhulme small research grant ('Viewing and writing Italian landscape. Luigi Ghirri and his legacy in photography and literature') for which Spunta was Primary Investigator. Spunta developed the core concept and critical framework for the research project, including its two international conferences and the project blog. Spunta and Benci's volume comprehensively develops research presented at the conferences, and two commissioned essays were added to enhance its reach. Spunta developed the critical framework for the volume, and led on all stages of the editorial work.
