- English abstract
- The book is a German translation and commentary on two tractates of the Tosefta, an early rabbinic compilation of laws from the oral Torah. Nedarim deals with provisions on the legal validity of conditional and unconditional commitments, including forms of the renunciation of enjoyment as a result of a vow, which can have far-reaching consequences for the family or entire community. Nezirut deals with vows of self-consecration and the Nazirite vow in particular. Based on Numbers 6, the rabbis discuss different ways of how the vow can be implemented in the Diaspora and in the land of Israel.
