- The aim was to investigate the electrochemical performance of a mechanically flexible polymeric mesh modified with a novel redox polymer and assess its ability to function as a pH sensor, with a view to integrate this technology as a new generation of smart skin wafers for ostomy applications. This work was selected as the July finalist for the 2019 Cahn Prize in Materials Science by Springer Nature. It builds on previous work from an Invest Northern Ireland Proof of Concept grant and has led to the initiation of collaboration with Coloplast - a leading manufacturer in ostomy products.
