- Bank branch closures have received considerable public and media attention, both across the UK and internationally, due to their potential impacts regarding financial exclusion of vulnerable elements of society and rural communities. This paper describes methodological advancements to techniques that provide an evidential base upon which to formulate government policy and future strategic planning. An output of an academic fellowship awarded by the Welsh Parliament to promote academic engagement with Members of Senedd and raise awareness of research relevant to topical issues under consideration, it aims to address a specific call for enhanced mapping of banking services provision.
