- The preparation of this critical edition involved the detailed comparison of eighteen separate primary sources, ranging from handwritten musical manuscripts (in a variety of hands), through printed scores, to recorded performances. The manuscript and printed sources together amounted to many hundreds of pages, all of which (once obtained from publishers' and library archives) had to be carefully considered: their various inconsistencies spotted, logged and critically assessed. The editor also undertook the typesetting of the published score: well over 1000 bars for full orchestra.
