- This book provides the first and most comprehensive examination of local ownership in UN peacekeeping, a concept that is frequently cited, but generally under-theorized and understudied. It provides a complex analysis of UN operationalization of local ownership, presents an in-depth case study of the peacekeeping operation in DR Congo, and, uniquely, includes Congolese perspectives on the issue. It is based on three years of intensive research, including nearly 100 original interviews in Congo, the US, and Europe. Interviewees included difficult-to-access senior UN officials and Congolese political actors, along with a range of other individuals.
