- Legislation at Westminster is the first in-depth study of the UK legislative process for over 40 years. It reports the findings of a major research project, conducted over several years, into the passage of 12 case study bills through parliament including comprehensive analysis of all legislative debates, over 4,000 proposed amendments, and interviews with around 120 legislative insiders (such as government ministers, opposition, backbenchers, and officials). The book challenges common assumptions that the Westminster parliament is a weak policy actor, demonstrating empirically the extent of the institutions policy impact and the different forms its influence takes.
