- This special issue of the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television is a product of the AHRC-funded project, ‘The History of Forgotten Television Drama in the UK’ (for which John Hill was the PI), based at Royal Holloway, University of London, from September 2013 until the end of September 2017 (https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/mediaarts/research/thehistoryofforgottentelevisiondrama/historyofforgottentvdrama.aspx ). The articles contained in the issue derive from a conference, ‘Television Drama: The Forgotten, the Lost and the Neglected’, which took place at the University of London, 22-24 April 2015 and was devoted to investigating television dramas that might be regarded as ‘forgotten’, exploring some of the reasons for this and assessing the consequences of ‘forgottenness’ for both histories of British television drama and television drama more generally. Hill held overall responsibility for the organisation of the conference and subsequent journal issue which he commissioned and co-edited with his co-researchers on the project, Lez Cooke and Billy Smart, as well as co-authoring the Introduction and contributing his own essay on the forgotten drama of Dominic Behan.
