- This paper reports the first development of a general form of smart contract using distributed ledger technology to enable shared automatic control of energy transfer within electricity networks in a replicable, secure, verifiable and trustworthy way. The research used a real network in Anglesey to show the potential benefits and led to an Ofgem NIA project uniquely funded by three power utilities, SPEN, SSE and UKPN (DeDSO, https://research.cardiff.ac.uk/converis/portal/detail/Project/54986000;jsessionid=8UwE1NSLcw2tvPajW7gBVsGmUJlnFTfeYRhjNles.cu?lang=en_GB”, (£262k). This work was also the basis of a keynote at IEEE PowerCon and UK-China workshop at Leeds organised by the British Council UCEER consortium (2019, https://www.qub.ac.uk/sites/UKChinaUniversitiesConsortiumonEngineeringEducationandResearch/RecordofActivities/).
