- Double-weighted statement
- The production of this output required a sustained research effort over an extended period (2014-2019). The volume is underpinned by the editors’ extensive archival research and the analysis of a range of published and unpublished materials by Michael Field, including their diaries held in the British Library and their correspondence in the Bodleian. These archival resources support the new insights into Michael Field’s work from a range of critical and contextual perspectives.

- Additional information
- Producing this output involved lengthy archival research into Bradley and Cooper’s published and unpublished papers, including their diaries (British Library) and their correspondence (Bodleian Library). Close attention to Field’s life writings unveils new insights into their response to the twentieth century, an area under-explored within previous criticism which tends to focus on the earlier part of their career during the 1890s.
Some of the essays began as papers at the Michael Field Centenary Conference at Senate House in 2014. The book is not simply a record of this event, however, with contributors being selected (and additional ones approached) on the basis of both the scholarly weight of their chapters and the thoroughness with which they address the book’s key aims. This has led to extensive revision and significant editorial input, not only in terms of copy-editing and checking the accuracy of all archival quotations, but also in the curation, shaping and organisation of the book’s chapters to produce a coherent whole rather than a collection of discrete essays.
