- The channel model described in this paper formed the heart of a communications simulator for spacecraft operations. The outputs from that simulator will guide ESA in spacecraft communication system design and operation during superior solar conjunction scenarios (contact: Javier De Vicente, Javier.DeVicente@esa.int). This will allow optimised telemetry, tracking and command links to deep space missions thus maximising mission data returns. Our model is original since it extends the range of sun-earth-probe angles that can be modelled and has been derived from measurements and rigorously compared with previous models where it overlaps.
