- Materials of the Mind is based on six years of exclusive full-time research. It draws on archival and museum sources from difficult-to-access (and difficult-to-interpret) collections from across the world, including Britain, the United States, France, India, Australia and South Africa. Sources in English, French, Portuguese, German, Chinese, and Bengali are used and translated. It provides a major reinterpretation of the field of the history of science as it relates to global history. Major themes addressed include empire, slavery, religion, race, technology, and material culture.
