- This monograph is the product of extensive research spanning two key time-periods, initially involving six years’ doctoral research on the development within Manchester’s independent football culture of a politicised class-consciousness in response to processes of globalisation and commodification. Four further years - including an internally funded sabbatical - were devoted to conducting additional research that updated and expanded its scope, content and conceptual focus. The book offers a unique, evidence-based critical evaluation of this contemporary cultural phenomenon and its broader social, historical and political context, advancing recommendations for future developments within the supporter ownership movement.
