- The volume comprises a critical edition (text and footnotes 800pp), with a substantial introductory monograph (168pp), and eight appendices (250pp). It was the result of twenty-years research (1991-1994, suspended, then revived by Weiss in 2001, who supervised the collaboration for the final 14 years). The volume has multiple components, requiring different methodologies (linguistic, textual criticism, material bibliography, literary/ ideological critique, history of poetics), requiring extensive primary research with unpublished sources from various European libraries. The result sheds new light on an encyclopedic humanist commentary, the process of literary canon formation, and the Renaissance reception of classical sources.
