- Double-weighted statement
- The book is an extended, complex piece of research that required sustained effort over four years. The effort was magnified for two reasons. First, the book is resolutely multidisciplinary, drawing on work in sociology, geography, philosophy, and organizational studies. Keeping abreast of literature in these disciplines requires considerable reading. Second, the book, as a work in philosophical social theory, develops abstract argumentation extending over multiple chapters. Doing this requires painstaking effort: arguing abstractly requires, e.g., filling out conceptual frames, anticipating counterarguments, linking to other perspectives, and identifying ramifications of abstract considerations.
