- This article explores secondary school teachers' views and uses of their unions in England and France. Drawing on a corpus of 60 semi-structured interviews conducted with members of this professional group (30 in England, 30 in France), the article highlights some significant cross-national differences in terms of the levels of union membership and the conceptions of trade union organisations that prevail in the two countries. Ultimately, the article concludes that the study of union involvement provides some unique insights into teaching cultures.
