- This 377-page interdisciplinary study develops a new approach to language, geography, politics and public policy by drawing on nine years of cross-disciplinary scholarly collaboration. The book examines a wealth of new empirical data – drawing on extensive documentary research, over 100 interviews, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping techniques – to offer original perspectives on contemporary language use practices. Moreover, the book places into a novel conversation literatures spanning the fields of political geography, public policy analysis, sociolinguistics and language planning. Managing the complex synergies between these literatures to generate new multi-disciplinary and policy-relevant insights reflects a substantial research effort.
