- Many patients with lymphatic cancer were previously over-treated with ‘standard’ therapy but it was ineffective for some. This was the first trial using PET-CT to modify chemotherapy and to devise standard methods for PET reporting. Results have meant fewer side-effects for many requiring less chemotherapy and improved cure for others using intensified chemotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma. The publication featured on charity websites (CRUK, Bloodwise, Lymphoma Action) was in the 96th percentile for social media ranking in NEJM. Reporting methods are in international guidelines (ICML, NCCN). It led to a NIHR research professorship and new trials testing PET-adapted treatment (clinicaltrials.gov NCT03337919,NCT03617666).
