- "This paper outlines a new theory of conscious perception based on the concept of the brain as a ‘prediction machine’. The paper scores in the top 5% of all publications at Altmetric and has field-weighted citation impact 8.46 (Scopus). It is the most-read paper in the journal [1] and has generated 9 published commentaries, by leading researchers including Friston (the world’s most cited neuroscientist) [2] and eminent philosopher Hohwy [3]. It motivated follow-up studies that evidenced synaesthesia acquired through cognitive training, published in Neuropsychologia [4] and Philosophical Transactions B [5].
