- This monograph took eight years to research and write, and is approximately 100,000 words in length. The research involved consultation of materials in local and national archives and site visits to and analysis of built heritage. As an interdisciplinary, longitudinal study of the culture of a medieval saint, it also involved the analysis and synthesis of many sources from numerous disciplines (literature, history, art history, visual arts, landscape archaeology) and the development of innovative methodologies in order to bring these materials into productive dialogue.
