- This 242-page monograph is the first detailed investigation into the effect of emojis on communication. It is the result of four years of sustained research involving the collection and analysis of a large body of digital material collected across multiple platforms. The primary sources (online social media) were widely dispersed and disaggregated, and considerable research time (involving the use of digital harvesting tools) was therefore required in order to gather, quantify and analyse them systematically. The resulting monograph provides an in-depth analysis of a dynamic and contentious new area of Linguistics from a range of interdisciplinary perspectives.
