- In this paper, a droplet wake flame and droplet group combustion under puffing conditions are directly simulated and investigated for the first time. Shell is our industrial partner on this EPSRC-funded project. With these simulations and obtained datasets, we were able to scrutinise how puffing secondary-fuel vapour interacts with a burning droplet or droplet group under convective heating in quantified detail. The findings will be important for developing computational capability for emulsion-fuel spray combustion under realistic engine conditions when puffing and microexplosion need to be taken into account.
