- This long-form output represents the culmination of almost 30 years’ work. The monograph (130,000 words) arises from a sustained and complex piece of research which investigates the creative practices of Iranian classical music-making from a variety of perspectives. The critical insight provided depended on a lengthy period of data collection which included transcription and detailed analysis of more than 30 complete musical performances (each lasting up to 40 minutes) and numerous interviews with musicians. In addition to being the sole author, I undertook all transcriptions and analyses (including of interviews), compiled the accompanying CD and obtained all necessary clearances.
