- This agenda setting paper, published in one of the most leading journals in the field, describes the development of a novel dual (first of its kind) gas (pO2 / pCO2) indwelling biosensor to be implemented on a single fibre. The team has performed the first in human clinical study using the sensor to detect the onset of Sepsis. This paper underpinned an EPRSC grant ((EP/R003750/1) in optical sensing for haemodynamic shock. Also, work in this field has secured a commercial contract (leading towards the commercialisation of the sensor) with the world’s leading company (Medtronic) investigating bowel viability in colorectal cancer.
