- The book tackles the complex issue of canon-formation in antiquity focusing on Greek historiographical texts. It considers a wide chronological frame, from the fifth century BCE to Late Antiquity and beyond, enabling to identify the presence of different canons in different contexts and ages across an extensive range of evidence, from Isocrates’ educational environment to the writings of Cicero, from the Alexandrian scholars to the Augustan age, from the evidence of papyri to late-antique Progymnasmata.
