- This book is the result of in-depth ethnographic work which examines experiences of female and male erotic dancers, and their women customers, in the UK. The fieldwork took place over 14 months. Considerable time was spent building trust among a hard-to-reach community. Equally, considerable time was spent working closely with dancers to develop a visual component to the fieldwork, utilising photo-elicitation as a device to communicate participant meanings, in addition to in-depth interviews and participant observation. The research advances key debates about gender and sexual power relations of erotic dance and relates these to general debates about the sex industry.
