- On the basis of 11th and 12th century palm-leaf manuscripts the book establishes a new foundation for the study of the Pāñcarātra, a thousand year old Hindu religious movement. Conventionally the 9th century CE Pāñcarātra Saṃhitās (literary treatises) were the earliest extant works of this tradition. These three texts represent literature from an earlier point in time than extant versions. The three newly edited texts are probably of a pure North Indian origin, unlike all other known Saṃhitās, which exhibit South Indian modifications and additions. The book interprets and solves text-critical issues and places them in historical context.
