- Double-weighted statement
- This is a very substantial work of 524 pp. It is the first intellectual biography of a fundamental figure in Latin American studies; it covers the whole of this author’s work and context, including previously unknown and/or discussed writings as well as material drawn from two extensive and only lightly-catalogued archives held in national institutions in Montevideo. In detail and scope, it is the first study of its kind in English and indeed in Spanish. It is the result of research carried out for almost two decades, and it was supported by a one-semester research leave funded by the AHRC.
