- A type-historical study, taking the peculiar form of ‘Danish g’ (without a lower bowl) as a key to examining the wider history of Danish typographic style. Historical research and photographic surveys of surviving examples form the basis for the text.
This is first in-depth investigation of this subject, informed by historical background and type-design knowledge. I investigated the history of Danish printing and tried to relate graphic design to the wider context of Danish design. Judgements are informed by thorough examination of photographic records and surviving examples. Several Danish type designers were interviewed during research. The text comes right up to date in an attempt to relate history to current practice.
