- This paper demonstrates a biomechanical mechanism that provides an explanation for the development of Perthes’ disease. This debilitating paediatric condition has been known about for over 100 years but until now its cause has been unexplained. This knowledge now offers the opportunity to develop a method to identify children at risk and possibly novel approaches to prevent or at least better manage the condition.
