- Additional information
- This is a first and only experiment that captures the dendritic patterns in high melting point Co, Ni and Fe based alloys in 4D (3D+time). The data is crucial for solidification modelling. A complete system is developed; high X-ray contrast alloys, a novel high temperature cell and sample enclosure system. The cell and sample system has been used extensively since then for in situ imaging experiments on various materials, from glass foams, cast irons, magnesium and aluminium alloys to magmas, resulting in >8 publications from projects currently being funded by UK and European grants.
