- This jointly edited volume by Comunian (KCL) and Gilmore (Manchester University) is a collection of papers from research and collaborations developed as part of a two-year international research network, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, “Beyond the Campus: Connecting Knowledge and Creative Practice Communities Across Higher Education and the Creative Economy” (AH/J005800/1), where Comunian was Principal investigator. Comunian contributed to the book as an expert on higher education and the creative economy. Comunian and Gilmore shared editing responsibilities, including the curation and revision of chapters, several of which were presented in research network workshops and the network’s international final conference at King’s (23-24 June 2014. Comunian’s demonstrable contribution includes lead authorship of the introduction, which provides an overview of the research field and maps connections between higher education and the creative economy, including reference to creative human capital and creative knowledge transfer; and the conclusions which set the research agenda of this new field of research. Comunian also contributed two further chapters. She co-authored and is lead author of Chapter 6, “Talent on the move: Creative Human Capital Migration Patterns in UK” with Faggian and Jewell. Here Comunian provides critical input in understanding how migratory behaviour of students in creative disciplines connects with their opportunity to access creative careers. The chapter builds on Comunian’s expertise on creative graduates in UK. Comunian also co-authored and co-researched Chapter 8 “Support or Competition? Assessing the role of HEIs in professional networks and local creative communities: The case of glassmaking in Sunderland” with Lauren England. This explores the case study of Sunderland and the knowledge networks that the North-East region has developed between the local creative economy and local higher education institutions. The chapter used data both from England’s research and Comunian’s PhD research on the North-East of England.
