- This portfolio explores my site-specific practice; music informed by the architecture of a building and performed in the space. While many site-specific artists showcase the acoustical properties of a site, a profound hearing loss has led me to develop a process that creates a multi-sensory experience. These performances complement the architects’ aesthetic and facilitate a deeper understanding of the relationship between music and architecture.
An important element of my practice is a developing sense of collaboration with performers. My music includes elements of openness in which the performers respond in-situ to transient features of the space; the buildings becoming conduits for composer and performers. With repeated performances over one day, these works are intentionally short to aid performance stamina and allow the audience to experience the musical openness on a more immediate level.
