- This research was originally funded by the Niger-Delta Development Commission of Federal Government, Nigeria (grant numbers NDDC/DEHSS/2013PGFS/OND/3) and the FP/2007-2013/ERC/306622. This initial publication subsequently led to follow on research jointly published between the University of Hertfordshire, Loughborough University, the University of Portsmouth and Imperial College London. It demonstrates the application of ultrasonically assisted drilling (UAD) as a viable machining process for improved machinability of heterogeneous Natural-fibre-reinforced polymer (NFRP) composite materials, a new trend over synthetic fibre-based composites in many industrial applications. Highly significant considering machining is often necessary to facilitate assembly of parts in a final product.
