- Reconstruction in positron emission tomography is a computationally expensive process that is often performed on computer clusters. Underpinning an FP7-PEOPLE-2012-CIG grant `Fly4PET’and Bangor’s contribution to HPC Wales (£510k), we drew our inspiration from cooperative co-evolution and computer graphics. We demonstrated how to exploit the algorithm’s internal data, that is traditionally discarded, as confidence levels to significantly reduce the computational cost whilst improving the accuracy. The research arises from a collaboration with Gent University, Belgium (jean.louchet@gmail.com), Avicenne University Hospital, France (jm.rocchisani@gmail.com) and INRA-AgroParisTech, France (evelyne.lutton@inrae.fr). We extended our approach to generate artworks, displayed for 3 weeks in Galerie Louchard (2017) (evo@galerielouchard.paris).
