- This monograph of 80,000 words is a comprehensive survey of the production and legacy of Laurence Olivier’s Shakespearean film adaptations, building on five years of archival research that resulted in the discovery - and detailed analysis – of screenplays thought to be lost. Drawing on theoretical perspectives from film studies, archival studies and literary and biographical criticism, the monograph completes and repositions Olivier’s oeuvre. As the first single-authored book to develop a specific model of Shakespearean stardom it also contributes to several interdisciplinary fields, including autobiography, archival, performance, film and Shakespeare studies.
