- This book is the result of a four year, ESRC funded study of regulatory capacity in the EU. The book is based on 42 interviews and a large amount of documentary evidence, amounting to thousands of pages of legal frameworks, thousands of pages of EU official documents (such as annual reports), and many German and British official documents. The research relied on developing an in-depth understanding of four highly technical and complex regulatory fields (drug safety, maritime safety, banking regulation and food safety) in three different polities (EU, Germany and the UK).
