- This paper is the first collaboration between researchers in Durham University, Sharif University in Iran and two universities in Chile. It presents a new way for increasing the reliability of multilevel converters, which are one of the most fragile parts of high power conversion systems. The work presented in this paper has been the foundation for an MSc thesis (by Manouchehr fathi ) in Sharif University (zolghadr@sharif.edu). Also a 1.5 year research grant is won in Sharif for the continuation of the works partly done in this paper (zolghadr@sharif.edu).
