- This paper reports for the first time the development of high surface area sulfated zirconia catalysts to produce renewable fuel additives via a one-pot method, greatly enhancing the process efficiency. The catalyst synthesis method is used to develop a new class of catalysts as reported in Nature Catalysis (DOI: 10.1038/s41929-020-00526-5). The work has strengthened the links between the institutes involved, resulting in two follow-up publications (DOI: 10.1021/acscatal.5b00965, DOI: 10.1039/C8CY01121D), and invited talks at ACS meeting 2014, The Royal Society meeting 2015, and EuropaCat 2017. It also drew funding from national (EP/K000616/2, EP/K014676/1, EP/G007594/4) and international (Spanish government CTQ2011-28216-C02–01) sources.
