- Material Goods, Moving Hands draws upon a complex and often fragmentary set of sources preserved in national and local museums, local record offices, university archives, national archives and company archives in the UK and US. The book required analysis of manuscript and published textual sources and also relied on extensive collections of visual and object sources. Interpreting these different types of sources required training in historical research methods and also art historical methodologies. The research and writing of the book took eight years and benefited from fellowships and roles at six different institutions in both the UK and US.
