- This substantial monograph (c.235,000 words; xvi+396pp) originates from a PhD thesis (Johns Hopkins; 2010-2017) with the additional support of a Humboldt Research Fellowship (Tubingen; 2019-2020). It provides a detailed analysis of Egyptian priestly characters drawing on a broad range of Egyptian and Graeco-Roman literary and paraliterary sources. The monograph proposes new ways of understanding the role of the Egyptian priesthood in Graeco-Roman Egypt as fundamental actors in the development of the philosophical, scientific, and literary culture of the Hellenistic, Roman, and Late Antique worlds. The monograph represents work of extended length, scale and detail.
